Former Twin Rivers USD Teacher Sentenced to 215 Years for Child Sexual Abuse

Kim Kenneth Wilson, a former teacher at Del Paso Heights Elementary School within the Twin Rivers Unified School District of Sacramento, California, has been sentenced to 215 years to life for child sex crimes. In court, he admitted to sexually assaulting young female students and documenting his crimes with photographs and videos. While teaching at the elementary school for years, Wilson also hosted a private media/broadcasting club. He primarily committed the child sex crimes in the club’s room, but evidence showed that he also abused children in his home.

After Wilson was arrested in January 2023, sexual abuse lawsuits against him and Twin Rivers USD began to be filed by some of his former students who claimed he sexually abused them. One student, who was only 7 at the time of the sexual abuse, has a pending lawsuit, and another student’s lawsuit has already been settled for $6 million.

The lawsuits argue that the Twin Rivers Unified School District mishandled valid complaints from students about Wilson’s inappropriate behavior and sexual misconduct. It is not clear if any investigations were performed by the school district after receiving such complaints. The school district has a strict responsibility to ensure the protection of its students and to respond appropriately to any reports of teacher misconduct. Its alleged inaction could make it liable for the severe physical and psychological injuries inflicted by Wilson upon his students for many years.

Fights for Sexually Abused Students in Sacramento

At McGee Lerer Ogrin, we are proud of our long history of standing up for the abused, especially children and students who were harmed by teachers and people in positions of authority. For example, we helped settle a childhood sexual abuse lawsuit against the City of Santa Monica and the Police Activities League for $122.5 million.

If you were sexually abused by Kim Wilson at Del Paso Heights Elementary School or elsewhere, you could have the right to file an injury claim against him and the Twin Rivers USD for failing to protect you. It has been convincingly argued already that the school district knew or reasonably should have known that Wilson was sexually abusing young students for years, yet did little to nothing to stop him; one child sexual abuse case has already settled for millions using a similar argument. Now is the time to see if you can demand justice with legal help, too.

As a reminder, California allows extended statutes of limitation for sexual abuse claims when they involve sex crimes against children and minors. You could have until you are 40 to start legal action, depending on the circumstances of the abuse. Don’t assume you have run out of time if the abuse happened years ago. Instead, speak with our student sexual abuse attorneys during a free and confidential case evaluation to learn what legal options might be available. We know that a financial recovery can’t undo the harm that Wilson has done to innocent students, but it can help families try to seek closure and move forward.
